Interview with body painter C Krishnaswamy

Van Gogh may have said paintings derive their lives from the painter’s soul. But when you look at the art of C Krishnaswamy, an artist based in Chennai, you feel that a painting can derive life from the painter’s body too. Many may argue that a painter uses his/her hands to hold the brush, so by extension, uses his body to create art. But this is no metaphor. We are simply stating facts as we see them. C Krishnaswamy uses his body as a brush and that’s what sets him apart from the crowd.

Interview with artist Kamal Rana

FIRE is my best friend; the fire is fear for some but for me it’s a pleasure. It aids me in my work and it creates different shapes for me,” says Baroda based artist Kamal Rana, who practises a unique style of creating paintings with ink and fire. Always fascinated by the myriad colours and shapes revealed by fire and smoke; he now gives form to those imaginary images through his paintings.
